Mountain Rustic

This is likely our most popular trend of the moment, and it is very “Colorado”.  This style uses cabinetry in rustic varieties of woods like Knotty Alder, Rustic Beech, Rustic Cherry, Hickory, and Quartersawn oak.  We’re using stains in everything from natural to chocolate browns with dark glazes to distressed grey barnwood looks.  Surprisingly, the door styles of the cabinets can vary widely and still work with the rustic woods.  Although the most common style tends to be a Craftsman look with recessed panels with wide frames, the look still works beautifully with a traditional raised panel door.  The rustic woods make the door a little less formal and give the home an inviting, comfortable style.

Grey and Taupe Finishes

Like the rest of the country, Colorado also has been falling in love with the color grey. All of our cabinet lines now offer grey stains and paints for their finishes, and the options abound in countertop and tile choices as well. Grey and taupe are both neutral tones that pair well with almost every accent color, so they are easy to decorate around. These colors also look amazing in bathrooms since they pair so well with crisp white sinks and fixtures creating a classic, clean, and soothing feel

Oversized Simplicity

This might sound like a contradiction, but we’re seeing more homeowners choose very clean simple lines but with large-scale mouldings, posts, and other details. The look is decidedly “transitional” – a cross between modern and traditional. People have moved away from the ornate carvings and now are embracing large coved crown mouldings, tall baseboards, and square columns without any extra detail. The result is sophisticated but also a bit more casual. And because the style has both modern and traditional elements, it also allows the homeowner to have an eclectic mix of furniture, art, and accessories.

All three of these trends should have staying power here in Colorado. They bring elements of the outside in, fit with the scale of our lofty mountains, and feel a bit more casual (just like our Colorado lifestyle.)
